Annu Rani who was from a village of Bahadarpur, Meerut grew up in a farming family with a love for cricket, where she trained herself by throwing cricket balls. Her brother Upendra was impressed by her strength during a cricket match.

In an interview with The Better India, Rani’s brother Upendra revealed her secret of how the eight-time national champion honed her skills through unconventional means as she lacked the means to undergo formal training.
As from farmer background Annu had to face all the problems of a conservative village family where her father was opposed her to participating in any competitive sports. But later her elder brother, Upendra, found the potential in his sister and encouraged her to take to javelin-throwing, but the beginning was not as she expected in the normal course of events.
Annu, even before she bagged the Commonwealth Games bronze on Sunday, she considered as India’s best female javelin thrower by a huge distance. The 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist has dominated the domestic circuit for almost a decade now and has broken the national mark nine times so far. No any other Javelin thrower has disturbed the national record book since 2014. But Annu Rani made an history in the national record.
The Asian Games 2023 gold medalist Annu Rani from Meerut will be representing India in the Paris Olympics. Annu started her journey in the javelin throw from a point where she was forced to practice by throwing Bamboo sticks or Sugarcane sticks due to the lack of availability but now she has become one of the top athletes in her sport.
There was a time when Annu used to go out for a run at 4 AM in the early morning and return back home before sunset As the girls in the village were neither wearing low skirts nor they were playing any sport but Annu is the only one who started her career in sports. She has now become an inspiration for many local athletes. Annu will play Olympics on August 7.
